According to an article published recently by The Guardian, the number of vegans in the UK has increased by 350 percent in just the last decade, and most of those new vegans are millennials. Out of 542,000 vegans in the UK, 42 percent of them are between the ages of 15 to 32. While many factors could play into this, it appears social media is the driving force behind why so many millennials are flocking to veganism.
The Guardian interviewed five teenagers, and all of them cited popular social media sites and figures, celebrities, documentaries they found online, and pretty much the Internet in general as their inspirations for going vegan. While it’s easy to criticize celebrities and social media for having too much influence over young people, at least this is one example of that influence having a positive effect.
