New Vegan Ben & Jerry’s Coming Soon!

June 12, 2015 by Samuel Warde Leave a Comment

ben and jerry's vegan ice cream

Ben & Jerry’s has launched a new ice cream flavor that is 100 percent vegan! There are three flavors Chunky Money, Cherry Garcia, and Carmel Almond Brittle they are made with either coconut milk or an almond milk base. The reviews speak for themselves and you can check them out here.

The decision for Ben & Jerry’s to make a vegan ice cream appears to stem from consumer demand. Over 27,000 people signed a petition on Change.org to persuade the ice cream maker into making a vegan flavor. The company has also been bombarded with emails requesting the same.

Over the past few years, non-dairy ice cream makers, like SoDelicious, have secured shelf space in major supermarkets across the country with their similar coconut milk and almond milk based ice creams. This means Ben & Jerry’s not only has new competitors, but ones that cross over into a share of the market they current posses none of. This growing trend must also put pressure on the ice cream giant to keep up with the times and adapt to a new generation of consumers.

Personally, I can’t wait to try this new flavor. I loved Ben & Jerry’s before I stopped eating dairy, so I’m hoping their vegan ice cream will be just as well made. I think it will all depend on how serious Ben & Jerry’s takes their vegan variety of ice cream. If it’s just a pandering attempt to grab a percentage of the market, it probably won’t be very good, or at least not as good as the dedicated dairy-free brands.
