Vegan Beer and Wine

Looking for vegan beer and wine lists?

As you may already know, not all types of beer and wine are vegan. Some beers contain fish oils, some wines are filtered through fish bladders, and well… there’s a lot of fishy stuff going on in beer and wine making. This topic is so extensive there’s no way I could begin to list all the information here, which is why I did you one better and found some great resources to help you separate the vegan from the non-vegan brews.

Here’s a quick list of popular brands taken from the Barnivore database to get you started:

Vegan Beer

  • Abita Brewing Company
  • Amstel & Amstel Light
  • Corona
  • Heineken
  • Magic Hat
  • Michelob (except Honey Lager)
  • Mike’s Hard Lemonade
  • Miller Brewing Co.
  • Redhook Ale Brewing
  • Roque Ales (except for Honey Orange Wheat and cask beers)
  • Rolling Rock
  • Santa Cruz Ale Works
  • Trader Joe’s Brand Beers

Mostly Vegan Beer

  • Brooklyn Brewery
  • Coors
  • Dogfish Head Brewing
  • Samuel Adams Brewing co.
  • Thirsty Dog Beer

Not Vegan

  • Fosters
  • Lighthouse Brewing Co. Inc
  • Moorhouse’s
  • Murphy’s Irish Stout
  • New Castle Brown Ale
  • Sol
  • Wooden Hand Brewery

Barnivore

Barnivore is a great resource. They have a virtually complete database of beers and wines sorted by what’s vegan and what’s not. They even go so far as to list liquors, too. Barnivore’s database is extensive, to say the least.

PETA’s Beer List

PETA’s list is also pretty extensive, but no where near as in depth as Barnivore’s, and they don’t list any wine or liquor. However, PETA’s concise list is more handy when you just want to quickly get a rough idea of what beer’s are definitely vegan friendly.
