New York City is a great place to visit if you’re a vegan. The food options are seemingly endless. One of our best friends lives in NYC, and luckily she’s also a vegan, so when we went to the “Big Apple,” we had an inside guide to some of the best vegan eats. While I’d love to bore you with every detail of our trip, I’ll spare you the annoyance and get straight to the list.
Here are, in no particular order, the best vegan restaurants in NYC:
Vegetarian’s Paradise 2 – Greenwich Village
Vegetarian’s Paradise 2 really is a vegetarian’s paradise. I can’t emphasize enough how literal their name is. They have a huge menu of 100 percent vegetarian and vegan items. You can get everything from fried chicken to crab cakes. Of all the restaurants we went to in NYC, Vegetarian’s Paradise was the one place we stuffed ourselves until we were sick. It’s an absolute must!
Champs Diner – Brooklyn
Champs Diner is a great choice if you’re looking for some down and dirty vegan junk food. Burgers, fries, sloppy joes… all the classics. I had a vegan ruben there and it was pretty damn good.
Natural Blend – Brooklyn
Natural Blend is an all vegetarian restaurant with plenty of vegan options, including vegan Caribbean food, and a juice bar. The pepper steak, rib and curry chicken are amazing and the “small” portions are under $10 but are huge! They also have great baked goods, pastries and shakes.
Paulie Gee’s – Brooklyn
Paulie Gee’s is a Brooklyn pizzeria that has a vegan option for everything on their menu. They make brick oven pizza and use vegan cheese that actually melts!
M.O.B. – Brooklyn (Closed)
M.O.B. is an all-vegan restaurant that’s famous for their flatbread. They have an awesome brunch with favorites like blueberry pecan pancakes – or sometimes citrus – and an excellent scramble with carrot bacon. Their smokey veggie burger is worth raving about, and their house made flatbread with horseradish mayo sauce is insanely good.
Candle 79 – Upper East Side
If you’re looking for fine dinging, or a nice place to take a date, Candle 79 is a great choice. We recommend the seitan piccata, which has a great flavor.
Blossom – West Village, Chelsea, Upper West Side
Another classy fine dining option is Blossom. They have an all-vegetarian, organic menu featuring delights, such as a mushroom ravioli appetizer so rich you’d think there was real butter in it, and a risotto that is perfectly complimented by a port wine.
Blossom du Jour
This quick-service restaurant can be found all over the city. If you’re looking for a quick and healthy lunch, you might want to try their “Blossom Bowls.” They also have shakes, cupcakes, and a smokey avocado wrap that’s great. Checkout Blossom du Jour’s website for all their locations.
Terri (Flatiron)
Terri specializes in vegan fast food, but it’s probably some of the healthiest I have had. Their chickpea tuna melt is one of those sandwiches that a lot of people overlook but it’s one of their best! They also have an awesome Buffalo chicken sandwich, as well as great shakes, cupcakes, and brownies.
Wild Ginger – Manhattan & Brooklyn
Wild Ginger is the place to go if you’re looking for vegan asian food. They have a great mix of Chinese, Thai, and Korean cuisine. Their “Peanut Butter Bomb” dessert is fantastic!
Pure Food and Wine – Gramercy
Pure Food and Wine is a great raw vegan place to go if you’re not into raw food that much, and we mean that in the best way possible! Though a little pricy, the fact that they may change your opinion about raw food makes it well worth it. We recommend the lasagna and sesame crusted oyster mushrooms.
