For years we’ve been making this tangy sauce that we simply refer to as “special sauce.” It’s a great sauce because it’s easy to make and it tastes incredible on sandwiches, pizza, and just about anything that’s salty and savory. The sauce is so easy to make because it’s just a mixture of Sriracha, mustard, and vegan mayo. These are pretty typical condiments in our house, so it’s basically become our go-to sauce.
The Philly cheesesteak has been around since the early 20th century. Plenty of food bloggers and restaurants have already done a vegan version, so we wanted to make sure our version had something that really takes it over the top. The answer was obvious: smother it in “special sauce.” When combined with sautéed veggies, fresh scallions, and fresh baked French bread, this vegan Philly “cheesesteak” sandwich is unstoppable!
