Every time I’ve ever been to Sonic, in my pre-vegan days, I have been completely disappointed with their food but completely blown away by their beverages; it’s mainly the ice. Where exactly are the vegan options at Sonic? I used to love going to the restaurants of this fast-food chain after a long night of drinking to cure my hangover and re-hydrate with a huge cup of an icy beverage.
However, I was reading the allergen list for Sonic’s menu and I learned that each location uses local bakeries to source their bread and that the ingredients may change from location to location. So, if you go to Sonic, you can ask for the ingredients if there is a bread item you want to order from the Sonic allergen menu.
Does Sonic Have Vegan Options?
Throughout the years, they tried to keep up with their customers’ needs and requests. It is already known that being vegan, these days, is something that everybody tries at some point. So, as one of the most popular fast-food chains in the U.S., Sonic should adapt, as well.
As you keep reading this article, you will find out what exactly is vegan friendly from their menu and what you should stay away from.
Disclaimer: none of their foods are strictly vegan because they may come in contact with animal-derived products, such as grilled veggies, which may be grilled on the same surface as the burgers. I would probably steer clear of anything that is grilled or fried at Sonic, even though they don’t contain any animal products. However, if you are not that strict, then feel free to try the grilled and fried vegan options at Sonic.
Vegan Options at Sonic
When we talk about vegan food, it shouldn’t be only about sides and dessert. Vegan burgers, sandwiches, and other main dishes should be included. However, as the customers repetitively requested this, Sonic does offer a veggie burger, at the moment, but only in selected locations.
On the other hand, unfortunately, it’s not vegan-friendly at all. According to Sonic’s allergen guide, their Veggie Burger Patty contains eggs.
Several online sources suggest that you can also make your own veggie burger at Sonic with vegetable toppings, vegan sauces, and condiments. Also, once more, you don’t have this option in all Sonic locations. The two bread varieties at Sonic that do not contain milk and eggs, as per the restaurant’s allergen guideline, are Bagel and Philly rolls. They are also only available in some locations.
So, the main dishes are still something to dream about when choosing from your vegan options at Sonic. Anyway, let’s see what exactly can we choose!

What Will You Choose from These Sonic Vegan Options?
As we already know, Sonic Drive-In is a popular fast-food restaurant loved by Americans for nearly 67 years. There are around 3,500 Sonic Drive-Ins in 46 U.S states. Though Sonic offers a variety of fast-food items, the vegan options at Sonic are limited.
Unfortunately, they did not adapt so well to the customers’ needs in the past years. So, many vegans may prefer to serve their meals elsewhere. It is important for you, as a person with a different menu wishes, to go to restaurants that truly respect that and we understand that.
So, let us know which exactly are these vegan-friendly places are and how was your experience there.
I use to work there and it is cooked on the same stove that is only cleaned twice a day.
