Applebee’s has never been known as a “healthy” restaurant, but I was kind of hoping that their recently updated menu would offer some lighter, veggie-friendly options. Not surprisingly, however, they have very few options for vegans. They do have a veggie burger on their menu, which is awesome, but alas, it’s not vegan. Not to worry though, here is a list of vegan options at Applebee’s to help as a guide next time you go.
Note: Fried foods may be cooked in common fryers.
Applebee’s Vegan Menu Items
As I said, the pickings are slim for vegans who end up eating at an Applebee’s. But if you find yourself in one of these restaurants, here are some sides to order that are safe for a vegan-friendly diet. So, do not hesitate to check these out:
Sides
- Chips and Salsa
- Housemade Sweet and Spicy Pickles
- BBQ Spiced Fries
- French Fries
- Sweet Potato Fries
- Guacamole
- House Chips

Sauces
When you order your food, keep in mind that many sauces and condiments are not vegan. However, Applebee’s does have a nice selection of vegan sauces. There are a number of salads available, so if you pay attention to what toppings you include when you order as well as what salad dressing you choose, these can be a safe choice for vegans
- Chili Lime Vinaigrette
- Italian Dressing, Fat Free
- Lemon Olive Oil Vinaigrette
- Spinach Salad
- Thai Peanut Sauce
- Spicy Sweet Asian Chile
- Classic Sauce
- Hot Buffalo Sauce
As mentioned above, it is worth remembering that restaurants often use common fryers for all of their foods. That means the oil your food is cooked in may have been used to cook non-vegan items. You will have to decide for yourself how you feel about this depending on how strict you are with your vegan lifestyle.
Although there aren’t many options for vegans at Applebee’s, there are enough items on the menu to ensure you won’t go hungry if you end up visiting one.
Do you consider items fried in the same oil as fish vegan? If not anything fried is not safe. I have a shellfish and fish allergy and they fry everything together.
Their menu really sucks. Here’s one vegan item: https://www.applebees.com/menu/appetizers/chips—spicy-chipotle-lime-salsa
They had steamed broccoli as a side for the kid’s menu. I wonder if you can order that a la cart.
They don’t have any vegan salads: https://www.applebees.com/menu/fresh-salads
An order of white rice with some of that chili lime vinaigrette is super yum.
why try?
Applebees needs just one good vegan meal like a bean burger or Kale salad.
