Are Tofurky Products Vegan?

April 15, 2022 by Samuel Warde Leave a Comment

tofurky

These days you can find a wide selection of meatless products in the produce and freezer sections of your local grocery. While all of these typically soy-based foods are vegetarian, not all of them are vegan. A vegetarian is someone who does not eat meat, but a vegan, or strict vegetarian, is someone who does not eat any animal products whatsoever, including milk, cheese, eggs, and even honey.

Turtle Island Foods, Inc. is a company that’s most famous for their original Tofurky — tofu-turkey –, but they also produce a large variety of other meatless products, including sausages, hotdogs, and bacon. You might be wondering if all of their products are vegan, and the answer is yes.

Tofurky Products

Tofurky is the name of Turtle Island Foods’ most popular food, but it’s also the name branded on a slew of other products. Things, like deli slices, hotdogs, sausages, and ground turkey, all carry the Tofurky name, and they are all vegan. Even their Tofurky pizzas are vegan.

Tempeh Products

Turtle Island Foods also has a line of tempeh products that are all vegan. These products include traditional tempeh, marinated tempeh strips, and tempeh bacon.

What are Turtle Island Foods’ Tofurky and Tempeh Products Made Of?

As you might have guessed, the Tofurky products are made of tofu – soy protein – and/or wheat, and the tempeh products are made of, well… tempeh – fermented soybeans. Although tofu and tempeh are both foods that come from soy, they are quite different in flavor and texture. In addition, to having different flavors and textures, many people also consider tempeh to be a higher quality source of protein and healthier food in general than tofu.
