Powdered sugar, which also goes by the name “confectioner’s sugar,” is vegan, but some vegans may argue that it’s not. Powdered sugar is just ordinary white sugar that has been ground into a powder. The problem for some vegans is that roughly half of all the white sugar in the U.S. is made from cane sugar, and roughly half of all the refined cane sugar in the U.S. is filtered through bone char. However, powdered sugar does not actually contain any animal ingredients, and the odds of it having been filtered through bone char are relatively low.
