Are SweeTarts Vegan?

SweeTARTS are a popular sour candy that come in approximately seven varieties, ranging from Classic to Mini Gummy Bites. Some varieties of SweeTARTS are vegan, but most are not. I was surprised to learn that most SweeTarts, especially the chewy kind, contain egg ingredients. Others, like the Gummy Bites, contain gelatin; and SweeTart Ropes contain confectioner’s glaze, which is made from an insect. However, the Classic SweeTARTS and the Soft Bites appear to be vegan.

Classic SweeTARTS contain calcium stearate, which is sometimes animal-based, so I reached out to SweeTARTS and asked them if the kind they used is plant-based. They assured me it is. Here’s what they said:

Hey, Adam! The calcium stearate used in any of our SweeTARTS products is a plant based stearic acid.
