I’ve been wondering for a while whether or not the soaps I buy at the store are vegan so I did some research and found that most are not. Most brands of shower cleansers you buy at the store contain an ingredient known as Tallow. Tallow is rendered from beef fat. It is processed from the suet of an animal, which is the hard fat found around the loin and kidneys of an animal. Tallow is also known as palmitic acid in many products. So next time you’re at the store, make sure you check the labels of the soaps you buy very carefully. If a product does not contain any animal fats, it will say “cruelty free” or “animal product free” right on the bottle.
Are there any affordable vegan soaps?
Organix brand makes shampoo, body wash, and conditioner that is cruelty free and can be found at most grocery stores. Compared to other shampoos at the store, it might seem expensive, but this brand is one of the least expensive when it comes to vegan products. Organix receives rave reviews over the smell of their products, and I have tried the tea tree oil one and it smells great.
