Carnauba wax is a wax that is used in many products ranging from shoe polish to candies; but where does Carnauba wax come from? Is carnauba wax vegan?
Yes, carnauba wax is vegan. You might think of bees when you see the word wax on a food label, but carnauba wax actually comes from a palm tree: the Copernicia prunifera. It is considered to be the “queen of waxes,” most likely because of its many uses.
In polishes, carnauba wax is used to produce a glossy finish; in candies, such as Atomic Fireballs, it is used for the same purpose. It is also used by manufacturers in the pharmaceutical industry to add a glossy coating to pills that make them easier to swallow.
